Prior to Version 7.5, instructions were unlockable via Level Up rewards, VIP status or in-app purchases. From version 7.5 all instructions will be available from level 1 to all players, so we encourage you to update to the latest version of the game if any of your instructions are locked.

Kindly note that some levels have special requirements such as completing the level with specific instructions only. You will see a popup before each of these levels showing you the instructions that will be available.

Lemmings will perform instructions when they interact with the instruction icons. Some instructions will be performed by one single lemming that will consume the instruction (dig, staircase, block), and others will be performed by all the lemmings until the player removes them (umbrella, glide, balloon).

HOW TO SELECT INSTRUCTIONS

You can select a maximum of 5 instructions (6 if you have purchased the Instruction + Slot bundle).

In the level popup you can see your selected instruction set.

  • Tap on the swap instruction button.

  • In the Bottom Instruction list, tap on the instruction you want to use.

  • Tap in the instruction you want to replace.

  • Tap on the ok button when ready.

INSTRUCTIONS

Dig (1 energy)

Dig Icon

This instruction is used to instruct a lemming to dig through a soft block. Blocks can be dug from on top of the block or from the sides.

Advanced Tips and Tricks:

  • There is a short waiting period after completing a side dig which can allow you to place another instruction (like staircases) for the digger lemming to pick up.
  • The lemming will change its walking direction when digging down if the centre of the block is behind it when it interacts with the instruction icon.

Staircase (1 energy)

Staircase Icon

The staircase can be used in empty squares that aren’t directly below a block or a trap. It instructs the first lemming to arrive to build a staircase in the direction they are walking.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • Staircase instructions can be linked together to build longer staircases. They can also be linked with bridges.

  • You can build a staircase to reach a portal, or coming out of it.

  • There is a short waiting period after completing a staircase which can allow you to place another instruction for the builder Lemming to pick up.

  • Stairs can be used to change a lemming’s direction, based on the direction of the staircase instruction.

  • Staircases can be destroyed while being built or after completion using the destroy, rocket or dynamite instructions. Explosive traps will also destroy partially or fully built staircases. Falling rocks do not destroy staircases (unless they land on a lemming that is still building the staircase), so they can also be used to protect lemmings that are under the staircase.

  • Staircases can be used to redirect lasers by 90 degrees.

  • If used on spikes, the builder Lemming won't die even though the trap gets activated.

Umbrella (1 energy)

Umbrella Icon

The umbrella instruction can be used in empty squares that are at least 1 square over the ground. It instructs all the lemmings that pick it up to open an umbrella to soften the fall.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • Any fall higher than 2.6 blocks or more will kill a lemming, and requires an umbrella, glider or balloon instruction to soften the fall.

  • The umbrella instruction can be used by all lemmings that fall through it, not just the first lemming.

  • Mine traps will not be activated if a Lemming uses an umbrella on the edge of a block as they will land right in front of it, where they can then build stairs over it.

Block (1 energy)

Block Icon

It can be used in empty squares over the ground and in staircases. The first lemming to arrive will become a blocker, acting as a wall and making the rest of the lemmings turn around. This happens both ways.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • Once you are done you can release the lemming in any direction by tapping on it and selecting continue left or right.
  • You can place a blocker where a staircase is being built to isolate the builder lemming from the rest of the crowd.
  • If the block the blocker lemming is standing on gets destroyed (for example by lasers or a digger lemming), the blocker will be released and continue in the direction they were originally going before they picked up the instruction.

Destroy (0 energy)

Destroy Icon

This instruction can be used on staircases or bridges to remove them. The first lemming to arrive will become a blocker-bomber, acting as a wall and making the rest of the lemmings turn around. After 5 seconds the lemming will explode, destroying the staircase but dying in the process.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • You can cancel this instruction during the 5 second countdown by tapping on it and selecting whether the lemming will continue left or right.
  • Remember the lemming will act as a blocker until it’s destroyed.

Glide (1 energy)

Glide Icon

Instructs all the lemmings that pick it up to glide diagonally down left or right. It can be placed with same rules as umbrellas, with the exception that you can’t point it towards the side of a brick.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • You can link glide instructions together by placing multiple glide instructions near each other in a diagonal line. This allows you to safely guide lemmings over a longer distance in a particular direction, or navigate them around obstacles.
  • Falling lemmings will be also safe by using the glide to land.

Musician (2 energy)

Musician Icon

Instructs a lemming to become a musician, gathering all the lemmings that pass by in a single square. It can be used in any empty square above the ground and staircases.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • You can use it to group the lemmings and send them in any direction you want.
  • You will need to have SFX turned on to hear the musicians’ music. Use 4 musicians at the same time for hidden metal music!

Balloon (1 energy)

Balloon Icon

The balloon instruction sends all the lemmings that pick it up flying up for two squares, then the balloon pops and the lemmings will fall down. It can be placed in any empty square.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • You can link them together to reach further up leaving one square in between.
  • It works great with the glide instruction to move up and then right or left.
  • Placing the balloon under a built structure like stairs or bridges allows Lemmings to float above and then land on these structures.
  • Can be used instead of umbrellas to break a lemming's fall, as long as they land on the same block where the balloon was placed.

Bridge (1 energy)

Bridge Icon

The bridge can be used in empty squares. It instructs the first lemming that picks it up to build a bridge between two squares.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • You can link bridges and staircases creating complex structures.
  • You can place a bridge directly over water traps.
  • The lemming that picks up a bridge instruction will pause for a second once they complete the bridge. This can allow you to quickly place another bridge or stairs instruction for them to pick up.
  • Bridges can be destroyed while being built or after completion using the destroy, rocket or dynamite instructions. Explosive traps will also destroy partially or fully built staircases. Falling rocks do not destroy staircases, so they can also be used to protect lemmings that are under the bridge.
  • Bridges block lasers without redirecting them.

Rocket (1 energy)

Rocket Icon

The rocket instruction can be used in empty squares over the ground and in staircases. The first lemming to arrive will fire four rockets that can destroy the soft blocks above.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • The rocket is the only way to dig soft blocks in the upward direction.
  • The rockets will divert on their path the farther they travel, so it’s possible to destroy adjacent blocks to the one directly above the instruction.
  • It takes two of the four released rockets to destroy a destructible block, but only one to destroy a staircase or bridge.

Dynamite

Can be used to blow up all destructible tiles and structures (including stairs and bridges) within a 3x3 area. After the Lemming places down the dynamite, it will turn around and walk out of the blast area. The dynamite will detonate after 5 seconds have passed. Any Lemmings within the 3x3 radius of the dynamite when it explodes will be killed.

Advanced tips and tricks:

  • Dynamite will immediately explode if placed within the area of traps that kill Lemmings, i.e. spike traps, lasers, mines, explosive blocks, falling rocks, saws and smoke monsters.
  • Dynamite can be placed off the end of a block, stairs or bridge to be dropped down a hole. Dynamite that falls into a water trap will sink into the water and won't explode.
